“It’s easy to take sides on abortion in the abstract because we only think of healthy babies. It’s much harder when the decision is sitting in your living room in the form of a fetus with an 80+ percent fatal heart defect.” —A Daily Dish Reader

“The following words are used to describe George Tiller in the Operation Rescue video posted here: “corrupt, alcoholic, drug addict, blasphemer, liar, defiler, butcher, perverse, foul, evil, unethical, murderer, malicious.” It concludes: “You may be the difference between life and death for a child.” —The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

Reagan Did It → nytimes.com

ntkg:

“This bill is the most important legislation for financial institutions in the last 50 years. It provides a long-term solution for troubled thrift institutions. … All in all, I think we hit the jackpot.” So declared Ronald Reagan in 1982, as he signed the Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act.

He was, as it happened, wrong about solving the problems of the thrifts. On the contrary, the bill turned the modest-sized troubles of savings-and-loan institutions into an utter catastrophe. But he was right about the legislation’s significance. And as for that jackpot — well, it finally came more than 25 years later, in the form of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

For the more one looks into the origins of the current disaster, the clearer it becomes that the key wrong turn — the turn that made crisis inevitable — took place in the early 1980s, during the Reagan years.

“How do you get promoted in a Barack Obama administration? By hating white people or even saying you do, or that they’re not good or put ‘em down, whatever…make white people the new oppressed minority and they’re going right along with it because they’re shutting up. They’re moving to the back of the bus and I can’t use that drinking fountain, okay. I can’t use that restroom, okay.” —Rush Limbaugh

“You can’t teach stupid and you can’t fix crazy!” —

Ashley’s quote of the day.

My comment?  “This is WAY too relevant to our lives.”

“President Obama was here in Los Angeles this week to bring his message of change to Hollywood. And really - is there any place in America that loves change more than Hollywood? The place that brought you four Terminator sequels, ten Police Academy movies, and 29 Star Trek films.” —Jay Leno (via inothernews)
