Take 10 minutes out of your day, and look at these pictures. Yes, it will break your heart. Its awful, and disgusting. But we need to get educated on whats going on, and you know a picture speaks more than any article, or news anchor ever could.
I don’t want anyone to <insert their political opinion here> I don’t want to talk politics. But I would like for you guys to take a quick peak into my world. When I see these men, do you know who I really see? I see my husband. I see our friends. I see a wife, or children who won’t be the same. I hate it. This is what I worry about happening, even though we’ve made it this far throughout deployment with nothing happening, I honestly will not be able to breathe easy until all my loved ones come home. And there are a lot of them gone.
“We’ll hear from GOP candidates that Arizona had to act because the federal government refuses to “secure the border.” The fact is that President Obama has sharply increased border enforcement and deportations; the influx of undocumented immigrants is greatly reduced from what it was during the Bush administration. But there Obama goes again, trying to find a sane, moderate course of action. Predictably, he’s getting hit from both sides—the anti-immigrant crowd that claims he’s not doing enough, and the pro-immigrant crowd that complains he’s doing too much. Immigration wasn’t always a partisan issue, but that’s what it has become; even John McCain, once a strong advocate of comprehensive reform, now sides with the xenophobes. This is a huge long-term problem for Republicans, who risk becoming branded as the anti-Latino party—and driving the nation’s biggest and fastest-growing minority group into the arms of the Democratic Party for a generation or more.”

One thing technology does not refer to in education anymore (I believe) is Powerpoint. While I do use Powerpoint from time to time in my classroom (great for showing images & embedding video clips into my lesson), students are pretty unimpressed with it. Prezi offers a way to create presentations with a little bit more of the “wow” factor. It also allows for teachers to sign up for an educator account. You can do so here.
I’ve been fooling around with Prezi for the past day or so to create a geography presentation for the beginning of the year. It’s very easy to use and I like how it’s turning out so far.
Some of our teachers are just now going to Powerpoint after using transparencies for years.

I watched a lot of soap operas when I was a teenager. This Bristol/Levi drama will never not be enjoyable for me.

They all seem to be working on 14 different useful projects, most of them unpaid. If I had had to compete against them when I was 21, I’d still be working on my graduate school application.
