Things I do not care about one bit: $134,432 worth of government spending on overpriced catering.

Things I do care about:

• Grotesque income inequality
• Corporations who pay no taxes
• The amount of money used by those corporations to buy politicians
• Tax cuts for the extremely wealthy that add considerably to the national debt by reducing revenues
• Our obscene “defense” budget

I’m serious. The government overspending on some snacks is truly the least of our worries, and I hate news stories like this that try to highlight it as a huge problem. Like, “See! This is where all the money goes!”

No. It’s fucking not. A couple hundred thousand dollars is not a large amount of money to the government, even if it is a huge amount to most of the US populace. I really think that newspapers know this when they have these pieces written. I honestly see these kind of pieces as distractions from the actual problems with government and as anti-government hate- and fear-mongering.

The government really shouldn’t be spending $16 each for muffins, but there are much, much bigger problems to worry about.
