Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Thursday urged the congressional debt committee not to propose any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.
“This country does in fact have a serious deficit problem,” he said to about 200 people packed into the Senate Budget Committee room.
“But the reality is that the deficit was caused by two wars - unpaid for. It was caused by huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in the country. It was caused by a recession as a result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street. And if those are the causes of the deficit, I will be damned if we’re going to balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the children, and the poor. That’s wrong.”

I sometimes think Bernie Sanders is the only sane person in the Senate.
Bernie Sanders is one of the few lawmakers in Congress that I find genuinely inspirational.

BUT HE’S A SOCIALIST OH MY GOD
I love Bernie Sanders. Sometimes I wish I was from Vermont. New Hampshire is kind of close, apart from out annoying...
^This. At least there’s one voice of sanity in the Senate.
Well, to be fair, Wisconsin used to have Russ Feingold, before we decided randomly to shove our heads up our asses.
