“Battleground” focuses on what happens in a campaign office among the bizarre and sometimes squirrely people who populate it. Much of the comedy is rooted in absurd conversations about utterly trivial subjects, all delivered with straight faces.
“Battleground” is also framed as a quasi-documentary, where individual characters periodically sit and talk to the camera about how they felt while the scenes we just watched were unfolding.
Like “The Office,” it does all this with tongue planted knowingly in cheek, so give “Battleground” credit for understanding what’s endearing about this idea.
“Battleground” also gets credit for a solid professional cast.
I love this show; it’s equal parts “Parks and Recreation” and “The West Wing.” View the first episode of “Battleground” here. The series runs every Tuesday, exclusively at Hulu.
