To save everyone who is planning to watch tonight’s Vice-Presidential debate the trouble of watching any post-debate analysis of the night’s happenings, let me offer this pre-debate analysis of the post-debate analysis:
—EVERY DEMOCRATIC ACTIVIST: Well, that was a great night for Vice President Biden President Obama. Joe Biden demonstrated that he and the president understand what’s going on in America today, and have real ideas and real solutions to fix what ails us. Congressman Ryan showed that he has failed the most important test for any VP candidate: that he is ready to be President should something—God forbid—happen to Mitt Romney. What a great night for the President’s team.
—EVERY REPUBLICAN ACTIVIST: Well, I think the Obama campaign is in real trouble now. Paul Ryan showed himself to be a man of depth and concern, and to have ideas that will really carry America forward. He really showed he was ready to be President, much less Vice President. Joe Biden just trotted out the same old ideas and the same old policies that have been shown to kill jobs and make Americans more dependent on government. I’d be really surprised if the polls don’t kick into overdrive for Mitt Romney now. What a great night for the Romney/Ryan ticket.
So, watch baseball or something when the debate ends. Because trust me: that really is going to be what people say in the “analysis” after the debate tonight.
