While it is unbelievable that I need to write this memo in 2012, recent events suggest that I do. So, going forward, please note:

No matter how passionately, intensely or sincerely you hold your pro-life positions, there is no context, no situation and no circumstance in which the word “rape” should cross your lips without immediately being followed by the words :”is a horrible crime and I pledge my full support for all efforts to care for all victims of sexual abuse of any kind.”

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
