Really? Then why did Deval Patrick ask for emergency disaster relief ahead of time so MA could respond to the storm?

Why is the clean-up of downed trees and power lines being described as “incredibly efficient” thanks to City of Boston’s alert system?

When people say, “Oh, government is ALWAYS inefficient” or that they “never help you” - well, I would understand if it was all FEMA after Katrina. But this ain’t it. “Government” isn’t bad or good per se. It always depends on context.

I think it’s mostly selection bias. Sure, most of the time trash goes out as scheduled. But one time, ugh. And it’s the one time people place in the “government is inefficient” framework.

There may also be some “ineffiency” created by government having purposes other than profits. Boston has to clean up all the downed trees and power lines. It’s not enough to get the easy ones, report the operation a success, and submit a bill.
