I just got trolled by a “constitutional conservative” arguing about traditional marriage as an absolute truth and not a civil right. Apparently marriage is a natural construct and I just need to “look around me.”
Why yes- I looked out my window and witnessed a squirrel wedding. Let me retract my arguments- I’ve now seen God’s truth.
Marriage is a social construct. It’s legally, not naturally, defined. Thereby making it a civil right.
So either believe that everyone should have the same civil rights or admit that you’re an asshole that thinks some people don’t deserve the same rights.
This is the most basic (and spot on) explanation of marriage equality EVER.
These “absolute truth” and “natural law” retorts by equality opponents are asinine…take an inequality in any sociology department and you’ll learn real quick how ridiculous these arguments are.
Eating (and related functions), Breathing are about as “natural” as it gets…practically everything else is a social construct
